Toodling around PEI

Today our hosts wanted to treat us to lunch. Nice eh!

First we went to the Sir Andrew McPhail homestead for a short tour.
Some gorgeous wild roses

To "get" this next series, you need to understand there is really not any serious stone on PEI. It's sandstone at best.

This is "the stone" under Pat's right foor

Pride of ownership

We weren't sure what this tree is. Kind of lilac-like, but not. Any ideas?

We went on to the Point Prim Lighthouse area to the nearby Chowder House for lunch. Luckily we got to the chowder house just as it was opening, because without a reservation we'd never have been seated today, it got quite busy:

It's in a gorgeous setting:

A side note- the owners/operators of the Chowder House, the Lavenders, used to operate Munshaw's Bistro in Flesherton Ontario, and lived across the road from us near there. We all enjoyed our meals very much.

After lunch we toured the Point Prim Lighthouse. It's an historic very old lighthouse, in excellent condition for its age. Built with round walls in 1845 of brick and masonry, it still stands today. The white exterior is wooden shingles to protect the brick.

Touring the grounds and the ground floor of the lighthouse is free, but there is a charge to climb up inside. Like a lot of attractions today, it is mostly maintained by volunteers.

The grounds around the lighthouse are very accessible, and very peaceful on a day like this:

Then it was on to the next and final attraction, Hanna's Bottle Village. We had a personal tour by Gar, the creator of this project. To date he has collected and donated over $40,000 to the IWK Health Centre in Halifax from visitor donations.

Interesting effects from the inside

    1. PEI is a great place to visit, along with Nova Scotia et al. We like that once we're out here, there's a lot to see and do without driving long distances.

    1. We sure enjoyed it. I had a bowl of chowder, Cathie and Nancy had other seafood. Pat, the native Islander, had a roast beef sandwich!
