We made our way south and east from Perth, towards Lancaster Ont, about the last town in Ontario on the 401 before entering Quebec.
There are lots of beautiful stone buildings in and around Perth and area, the result of a lot of Scottish immigrants to the area many years ago. Here is a small sample:
A woman was enjoying her morning coffee on a porch swing in the shade here. Nice spot. |
Once again, we found we really don't want to go through Quebec again. They want and advertise for tourists, but the road signs are all uni-lingual, French only. Most of the time we can figure them out, but often it's the temporary signs that are an issue. You see a bright orange sign obviously warning about something, but the words are not familiar. On top of that you start seeing signs for "National Parks", but we know now that's what Quebec calls their Provincial parks. Don't bother trying your Canadian National Parks Access pass here, except at Forillon park.
We started into Quebec about 10 am, and are camped just inside New Brunswick at our usual park, De La Republique. It used to be called Les Jardins De La Republique because of the beautiful gardens next door. However the gardens are now a separate entity and entry fee, so maybe that's why Les Jardins was removed from the park name . We got camped about 6:30 Atlantic time, which is 5:30 Eastern time.
Black flies chased us inside fairly quickly at the campground. Our Deet-based repellant worked for a while, long enough to have a snack and a relax in our recliner chairs, but that was all. Luckily black flies don't like to be inside vehicles or houses, and just head for the windows once inside.

We have found that over the years as well, Quebec is not that really friendly to us unless we know French very well , sad but true. Enjoy your travels and all the amazing scenery.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do regret not enjoying Quebec more. There's lots we like about it.
DeleteYou sure do like to travel! Was that 11 hours travel time?
ReplyDeleteI guess 11 or so plus stops. We don't like doing that, but find we need to get east of Quebec City before enjoying the drive.
DeleteHi folks enjoy your blog & we also found Quebec travels awkward— I added the Google app “ translate” on my smartphone & found it very helpful plus it is free.Have a great trip.

ReplyDeleteI think the next time we go to New Brunswick it will have to be on a bus tour where we can be driven around to all the great sights and I don't have to drive.
