A day-trip visit to Key West

One of the Key West route bridges

Today Cathie and I decided to take a day trip to Key West. The others had been before and decided not to go. It was a long drive for a day trip, but glad we did it once.

One bridge alone is 7 miles long, and many others with great views as the road island-hops (or cay-hops?). It was a beautiful sunny day, which always helps.

Key West itself was busy, with narrow streets. It looked quite picturesque, but we didn't even get out of the car, just had a loop drive around to have a look.

Partway back we were ready for some lunch, and found a place called Frosty's that looked good. It's near Marathon, a bit off the highway overlooking a bay. What a great meal and experience, just what we were looking for.

We both had their daily special, grilled tilapia with red spuds etc, and a piece of good Key Lime pie to top things off. Cathie also had a Key Lime martini.

A cute mailbox stand

Large-scale irrigation in places, mobile pumps hooked to water lines

It was a warm day, hot and muggy at times. The mosquitoes chased us inside by 7pm. They're not even too bad yet, but bad enough for us. It was still 24C at 8pm, and we left the screened windows open all night.
