Marysville KS to Lamar CO

Another reasonably long travel day. It started off about 9C and stayed between 9C and 11C most of the day. In the afternoon we broke through a front though, and the temp quickly climbed to 16, 18... eventually to 24C.

We do have a deadline for this trip, which is why we're pushing the travel days a bit. We only have 33 days of US medical coverage at a time, before we have to be back in Canada. It resets for the next trip for the next 12 months, but always for only 33 days in the US. So we have to be back in Canada by Nov 2 this time.

We did take some more time to stop here and there today though. Cathie has been hit with a head cold, which has hampered us a bit. She's feeling better today, although you wouldn't really think so if you hadn't heard her yesterday.

We again followed US 36 quite a bit today, the Pony Express Highway. It's a good drive, sometimes a full divided 4 lanes, sometimes just a good paved road through farm and ranch country. Never really busy, much less through trucking, and a lower speed limit than the nearby Interstates like I70 (65 mph vs 75 mph). More Pony Express items along US36:

More history; if only these old places could tell their story:

We did look for actual camping again today before settling in to yet another Walmart. One of the issues is there has been a lot of rain in the places we've been travelling through for the past few days, and a lot of the waterways are at flood stage. We dropped in to a KS state park on a reservoir lake today to check it out:

Many of the rivers look like the Mississippi description - the big Muddy!

At one of the ranches, the Oreo cattle herd lined up for feeding time:

A lot of the road today was pretty lonely:

Visible weather front we flirted with all day

We saw many large fields of this crop today, and finally used Google Lens on my phone to identify it:

It's Millet, we've never seen it growing before

Another Walmart sunset, this time with our weather front visible again. It's been very windy all day too, moving from out of the Southeast to South to Southwest:

Here's a map of today's travels:
