Changing plans - Valdez to Tok AK

12C and rainy this morning. We decided to change campgrounds, and in the process found out that the ferry we had booked for Tuesday was cancelled for the week! After we got a refund for the ferry trip, we had to decide what to do now.

We finally decided to start heading back to Canada instead of driving around to the Kenai Peninsula. It’s a long drive to the Kenai and back, through Anchorage each way, and we were a LONG way from home, so we headed towards Haines.

The drive north to Tok looked so different than the drive south to Valdez did. We came south in sunlight, but the northerly drive was overcast with some fog and drizzle. The mountain views reminded us of the area around Glenco Scotland. By 90 minutes north of Valdez, the temp was up to 16C and the sun was out.

We got to Tok about 5:30 ADT in light rain and 18C, fueled up, and set up camp at a self-serve cg. Alaska Stoves has good facilities though the sites are unserviced, and at $20 it’s a bargain around Tok. A very few black flies were around. It’s right beside the local small airport, but no flights overnight, at least none we heard.
