Cathie and Donna went off to a meeting in the early afternoon with Donna's friends, nominally (?) a knitting group called Yarn Yackers. It was cloudy and wet this morning but cleared up nicely in the afternoon, so after Sergie and I got up from our naps in mid-afternoon we had a little walk around the neighbourhood.

Soon after we got home Sergie and I were relaxing on the back deck when we heard a neighbour making noises like he was shooing something away. He was:
A young black bear (cinnamon colour version) was visiting the neighborhood |
The bear had been in the next door neighbour's yard, licking the hummingbird feeder clean. Bears appear around here pretty regularly, and as long as there is no food they usually move along. Sergie joined in with some noise to shoo the bear on its way.
A bit later, this Golden eagle had landed in a nearby tree, so I was ready for a picture when it took to the air:
Cathie encountered some quail right where she and Donna had parked:
Sergie is a good bear alarm, barking fiercely if any come around (or any bighorns etc). Here Donna is thanking him after hearing of his heroism scaring away today's bear (seriously, he's quite good given his small size):
Sergie is a lover not a fighter when it comes to people and other dogs though. He regularly visits a retirement home where he is very popular.
A lovely relaxing day that Cathie and I needed after our travels for the past week.
