A fairly long travel day today, south and west of the Park, skimming Saskatoon, and on to the west.
We got fuel at a Prince Albert Petro-Canada this morning. Full service, and the guy actually offered to clean the windshield too! I let him, but flipped out the wipers for him. Out west we've found lots of PetroCan stations, in good shape. Esso on the other hand, seems to go downhill especially in northern BC and the Yukon.
It was a pain getting around Saskatoon this morning. It would have been a LOT easier if we had got out the proper map so we could have seen the bypass route as we realized later on. Instead we had a frustrating time avoiding sucked in to the seemingly insane Saskatoon early-morning traffic. We did get through safely though, and it likely didn't take as long as it seemed at the time.
We stopped at a little bakery in Hague SK for some breakfast. They had slices of a "breakfast pizza" which we'd never seen before. We split a piece, very tasty. Should have taken a picture but didn't. Hopefully we'll get better at this. We did get a picture of a couple of small quiche we got for later:
We came across another free municipal campground, on #14 about 3 km west of Unity SK. Way too early for us to stop on a travel day, but a note for another time.
Later on we met several of these large bins being carried to a new home. They sure take up some road.
An eye-catching ad at the roadside:
When we stopped to take a picture of this, a woman resident said we wouldn't enjoy it if we lived beside it like she does. People honk at all hours:
We pulled into Lacombe AB about 6:30, under dark and rumbly skies. A severe thunderstorm watch was out and it looked ominous, but cleared up later on. After the 12+ hour travel day we're tired out tonight.
Today's route:
