Another short travel day BC

Today we went from our campsite (Wildwoods Campsite across Hardy Bay from Port Hardy) back to Telegraph Cove for the night. We decided to take the 3-hr whale watching trip from Telegraph Cove tomorrow (Tuesday). The Grizzly tour that we had finally decided to take is now booked up to Sept 9, so that's not going to work.

So today after we broke camp, we went back in to Port Hardy and looked at our campsite from that side. Couldn't hardly see it.

There was a bit of mist in the morning:

From Port Hardy we headed down to see what Port Alice was like. It has a real pretty harbour:

with a funny looking bird on a post:

We saw another totem, this time in front of a high school in Port McNeill:

Back to the same campground in Telegraph Cove for the night. Our boat tour is scheduled from 9 am tomorrow, and we'll be heading south to catch a Wednesday ferry after that.

Another woodsy campsite tonight:

Once we leave the Island we'll start working our way home. Not sure about the route, what with many old and new forest fires in BC, and mudslides closing hwy 99 in the Cache Creek / Hat Creek area. Heard on the news today that there were over 100 new fires started over the weekend. Ontario is sending some help this way now. No campfires allowed in any BC camping we've done.

Our approximate route today:
