A day in Telegraph Cove BC

Today was a stay-put day. We hiked out to the same cove we did yesterday, hoping to see some black bears that show up there sometimes. Not for us though.

There are some large trees in the forest on the cove trail. Hard to capture that though:

I haven't seen shelters like this in a regular campground before. We talked to the people in this one. They are from Utah, spend the summer here boating, and store their boat in the shelter when they head back to Utah (or wherever) for the winter.

Wouldn't a certain BigEEE from Bayfield look good in one of these shelters!

In the village while we were having a coffee-shop break, this smallish log truck motored by on the town road. We thought he might be going to the little mill we passed, but he just found a place to turn around and left. Kinda crowded for even a smallish log truck:

Here's the mill we thought the logs might be going to:

This fellow was running a band-saw mill, walking the cutting mechanism from one end to the other for each board. The mill head is moved by a crank he turns by hand, to cut its way down the log.

Well, not much excitement today and our Internet pass is about to expire, so will publish this early. Tomorrow we will be moving on to other nearby places.

    1. There's something appealing about those small mills, and the squared log he was working on looked amazingly straight and knot-free. There sure are some nice lumber trees out this way of course. Gord.

  3. I like that shelter idea. Of course their U.S. dollar helps to reduce the yearly cost. Enjoying your posts Cathie & Gord.

    1. Food for thought eh? I'm not sure what the setup was, the shelters all looked different, like the people built their own for their particular needs and wants. Gord.

  5. Great blog. But you should be happy you didn’t see the bears. Or that they didn’t see you! Or did they...and you didn’t realize it?

    1. The woods around the cove are dark and dense, so there could have been bears (or goblins or trolls) in there watching us!
