Waterton Lakes AB to Cochrane AB

A nicer pic of the Prince of Wales Hotel overlooking Waterton town marina

Yesterday we went for a couple of walks around Waterton town, sometimes dodging the periodic light raindrops:

A very nice utility building. A generator for town?

Excursion boats were running tours of the lake

Cathie found a nice bench, too big for the van

Normally there are a lot of deer in Waterton town. We didn't see too many but there must still be some around:

If the deer can't read the sign, there's always the wire fencing. Most smaller trees in town are fenced to give them a chance to grow up.

On our way out of town today we stopped at the Bison Paddock. This is maintained by the park, and allows motorists to drive in a large paddock containing a number of bison. There were few bison there today though. We suspect that since the females are calving right now, they are moved to a more private place. The females can get pretty aggressive with brand new calves.

It's still a gorgeous short drive though:

Often there are bison around this pond

The road through the paddock

Today we only found a few males, resting and ignoring us:

Carrying on towards Pincher Creek, the views kept coming:

Looking back towards Waterton

One mountain top had a persistent cloud

Donna B tells us that once these plants start flowering, it's warm enough for the rattlers to start coming out of their winter quarters. I guess the snakes are coming out, but we haven't seen any:

In Pincher Creek, the grass is already dry enough to need watering:

Tonight we are mooch-docking at some friends, Michael and Rhonda. We were neighbors in Flesherton, until we both moved out; we to Bayfield, and they to the countryside near Cochrane AB.

  3. The Prince of Wales reminds me of our Dalvay By The Sea. I guess there’s not much traffic on these roads is there. The scenery is breathtaking.
