Day trip to Paradise

The forecast was for some fairly high winds in this area last night, and it sure sounded windy. We were tucked into a deep heavily-treed canyon though, so it was mostly sound effects for us. We expect to extend our stay here. No wifi at the site, so we’ve had to drive out into an open area to get signals. On the way out we encountered some wildlife:

We had a really fun drive today, a loop from the campsite to Portal, around to Paradise, and looping back to the site. A lot of the road actually had a highway number (42), but 2 hours to cover some 30 km will tell you what it was like. We enjoyed it!

Lots of time around the campsite today on a beautiful sunny, sometimes cool, day. And the bird life, wow! A fellow told me today that this area is in the top 10 birding areas in the US. It's been fun trying to identify new (to us) species, and hard to get useful pictures of them.
