Cave Creek to Whitewater Draw AZ

After a lovely stay at Cave Creek, we decided to move on today.
First we headed south to Douglas, to the amazing WalMart there. We'd been there just a couple of days ago too. It had made us a little nervous on the way to it, as we had to turn down a street that said "Mexico - Personal vehicles". Sure enough, you could likely throw a stone to the Mexican border from the WalMart. It's sure a huge store, and the large solar-panelled canopies are tall enough for motorhomes to park under.

Then we headed north from Douglas towards a birding area called Whitewater Draw that we had heard about. It's not a place you would find by accident, but is only 12 miles or so north of Douglas.

The area is famed for the number of Sandhill Cranes that spend a lot of the winter here. Apparently in January there were over 13,000 cranes here, plus other waterfowl. Maybe today's count was less than that, but it seemed like thousands still here today.

Nice viewing area

By nightfall the crowd had thinned out considerably, as group after group took flight to the northeast. They're on the move.
