Day trip to a nearby mountain

Gary took a group up a nearby mountain (you can see it behind our trailer in one of our cg pictures) and we decided to join them. You needed a decent 4x4 of some type, so we qualified. We took both vehicles and the dogs.

What a trip! We climbed about 3,000 feet, sometimes along the face of the hill. No problems really, but pretty exciting for us flatlanders.
We could still see an old stagecoach trail, to the right of the modern road

Heading for the peak with the towers

Pretty wide here

At various stops Gary would talk some about what we’re seeing, and that really added to the trip interest. Sweaty-palm driving sometimes, especially descending. I was glad we had low range 4wd for the descent (didn’t use it on the way up).

Overlooking the Rio Grande river

Hope nobody's coming the other way

Then we had a lazy afternoon at the cg, got buckets of chicken for supper. Then laid back in our lounge chairs and star-gazed. Terrific star viewing here, with the dry clear air, and 4,400 feet elevation at the cg.
