Scotland Day 12 - Stirling Castle, and back to Glasgow

View from Stirling Castle

The main event scheduled for today was a visit to Stirling Castle. The day started with driving to a ferry just a few minutes from our Mull hotel, to take us on to Oban.

After a 45 minute ferry ride we were in Oban, and boarding the bus again.

On to Glen Coe for a "comfort  stop" and a look around. Glen Coe is yet another stop that looked totally different from our visit 34 years ago. I guess because Scotland has so many buildings dating back hundreds of years, we just don't expect that much change in only a few decades. :))

Lunch today was provided by Seniors Discovery at a pub along the way. I don't know why but we have no pictures of lunch, which included soup, sandwich and battered haggis. This haggis was somewhat different than the previous version a few days back, but similar, and yummy.

Onward to a tour of the very impressive Stirling Castle. Even by castle scale, this place is huge, and as usual our pictures don't do it justice. Here's a link if you'd like to see more about this very historic Scottish castle:

There's a big drop past that stone wall

The National Wallace Monument off in the distance, commemorating the life of Sir William Wallace

The rain held off for our lengthy tour of the castle, but started up again once on the bus and headed for Glasgow.

We'll be staying at the same central-Glasgow hotel, the Maldron Hotel, for the next 3 nights until our departure for home.

  1. We also toured Stirling Castle; very fine kilted tour guide!! Me thinks you perhaps did not tackle the Wallace Monument???? We climbed all 246 steps for an amazing view as our reward!! Sheila
