Lander to Grand Teton WY

7C with rain this morning. It rained all night, there are puddles everywhere. Foggy in the mountains. We started out about 7:45, stopping enroute in Lander for some supplies.

It's still a pretty drive, even with the mist and rain. Now that we've been to Lander we're noticing the name in various western magazines. It seems like an up-and-coming place.

Lots of sage-covered hills, red rock. We followed the swelling and swiftly-flowing Wind River on to Dubois. Dubois is a lovely little touristy but nice old West-looking town, well-serviced. Cath bought yarn at a little shop, Gord got gas :-).

Down to 5C at 8000 ft. At 8600 ft it started to snow, got down to 3C. At 9200 ft it was down to 1C and the ground was well covered with snow. We passed a cyclist pedaling up the hill!

The pass was 9658 ft, and there was construction up there. The roads stayed mostly bare/wet though, not slippery. This is the South entrance to the Grand Tetons area. We saw a magpie, and a Mountain Bluebird.

We camped at Grand Teton RV park for 2 nights, near Moran Junction, 6 mi east of Tetons Park. w/e site, WiFi. Special off-season rate “only” $45/night! This is an expensive area.

After lunch at the trailer we drove down into Jackson. Low clouds, no wildlife or good mountain views. Jackson has a really nice visitor center. Everything is pretty upscale here.

Entrances to the town park are highlighted by elk-antler arches

Then back out of town to Moose Junction and into Teton Park. A $25 pass is good for 7 days admission to both the Grand Teton and Yellowstone parks.

On the way out of Jackson we stopped at the Nat'l Museum of Wildlife Art. It looked like a great place. $10/person though, closing in an hour, so we didn't go in.

We saw lots of distant elk on the drive through the park and back to our campsite.
