Camped at De La Republique park NB tonight

De La Republique campsite

We got away from Flesherton right at 6am as we prefer to do, to get past Toronto in good time. Good low-traffic drive, down Hwy 10 to 410 to 401 and then easterly. It was a nice sunny 7C day, with enough cloud to mask the sun when it was low in the northeast at the start. We reached the Port Hope exit by 8:20.

Sign seen at a business on Hwy 10:

"A quiet man is a thinking man; a quiet woman is usually mad." :))

We stopped for gas at the Lancaster Ont Pilot station, the last stop in Ontario before entering Quebec, and decided to have a Denny's lunch while we were there. That way our sandwiches we had planned for lunch would be our supper, and we had a good break. We're planning to stop at the De La Republique Provincial park for the night, just through Quebec into New Brunswick near Edmundston.

We took our usual exit off Hwy 20 in Quebec, and worked our way up to the new Hwy 30 that bypasses Montreal. We found out on the way home that there's a new bridge open, a much easier way to get from Hwy 20 to #30. Just stay on Hwy 20 eastbound until signs to Hwy 30 Est, about km 29 into Quebec I think.

We got to our campsite about 8pm EDT (9pm Atlantic Daylight Time). Staff were still there, no problem getting one of the few electric sites still available.

As I backed into the site, I heard an unusual sort of metal-on-metal scraping noise from the trailer. I checked the wheels, but no heat buildup or signs of damage. ?? So we just settled in for the night.

I expected lots of black flies at the campground, but surprisingly few found us.

  1. Did you actually drive all the way to N.B. In one day? Route around Montreal does look like a big improvement.

    1. Yes, we've driven between home and Les Jardins in one day on a number of trips.

    2. P.S. That kind of marathon is less likely to happen these days though!
